The first time I invested in Bitcoin back in 2022, I put in $3,000 when the price was around $20,000.
It was a speculative move, made without much thought, and I ended up selling at a $500 loss.
In early 2024, I invested Bitcoin $10,000 and I will continue to invest regularly for going forward.
Why I Invested in Bitcoin in 2024
1. The Declining Value of the U.S. Dollar
The U.S. dollar is the world’s reserve currency, but since the COVID-19 pandemic,
the amount of money the U.S. has printed is staggering.
This rapid expansion of the money supply inevitably erodes the dollar’s value.
Every time the U.S. faces economic instability, more dollars are printed to stabilize the situation,
but this comes at the cost of devaluing the currency further.
Bitcoin, on the other hand, offers a hedge against this devaluation.
Although it’s still classified as a high-risk asset,
I see its long-term potential as a store of value and a hedge against inflation.
My plan is to gradually increase my Bitcoin holdings until it makes up about 3% of my portfolio.
2. Bitcoin’s Finite Supply
Unlike fiat currencies like the U.S. dollar, which can be printed at will,
Bitcoin’s supply is capped at 21 million.
This scarcity sets Bitcoin apart from other cryptocurrencies and gives it a unique value proposition. I
t’s not just another high-risk crypto asset
, like the countless speculative coins that emerged and disappeared during the crypto boom.
Because of its limited supply,
Bitcoin maintains its credibility and stability, even as other cryptocurrencies falter.
3. A Tool for Wealth Preservation and Diversification
Often referred to as “digital gold,”
Bitcoin is increasingly recognized as a tool for preserving wealth and diversifying portfolios by many affluent investors.
It offers the potential to maintain and even grow asset value over the long term
while complementing other investment types in a diversified portfolio.
My Perspective on Bitcoin Investment
My investment in Bitcoin isn’t just a speculative bet on a high-risk asset. It’s a deliberate move to prepare for:
- The potential decline of the dollar’s value.
- The growing importance of diversification in an unpredictable global economy.
Only time will tell how Bitcoin evolves and whether it will protect my assets as expected.
For now, it’s part of my broader strategy to safeguard and grow my portfolio in a rapidly changing world.
